Senior Engineer Scientist, Maritime Strike Tomahawk

Education: 
  • Position requires a MS or MA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline.
    • ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTION: A BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline and an additional four (4) years of recent and relevant experience may be substituted for a MS or MA degree. These four (4) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of ten (10) years to meet the “Experience” requirements below, therefore, requiring a total of fourteen (14) years of experience.
Experience:  At least ten (10) years of recent and relevant experience in an engineering position, three (3) of which must be directly related to naval systems. Demonstrated knowledge in area of engineering expertise is required.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to effectively work and collaborate with a team, both internally and with industry partners that are remotely located.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, requires little to no supervision, resourceful.
  • Strong understanding of electronic communication (phone, text, email, IM, telecom, collaborative sites like APAN and Teams).
Position Description:  Performs tasks with little or no guidance.  Has demonstrated knowledge in area of engineering expertise.  Applies engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan and design, develop, implement, test and evaluate military weapons systems.  Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation.  Applies systems engineering experience to perform functions such as system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, or acquisition and resource management.  Analyzes, designs, develops, implements, tests, or evaluates software, components, or systems related to engineering or functional requirements of military weapons systems, and associated support systems and leads the execution of complex tasks.
 
The Maritime Strike Tomahawk (MST) Systems Engineer is responsible for the full spectrum of multi-disciplinary technical management of MST subsystems hardware and/or software integration with the Tomahawk Block V missile, the Theater Mission Planning Center (TMPC), and the Tactical Tomahawk Weapon Control System (TTWCS) products.  MST system design includes functionality, compatibility, and operational integrity within the Tomahawk Weapon System (TWS), and is verified and validated at MST’s Initial Operational Capability (IOC).  The MST Systems Engineer will assist the MST Assistant Program Manager Systems Engineering (APMSE) with all tasks associated with the development and implementation of the MST platform.  The engineer will assist the MST APMSE in working directly with the contractors, assessing contractor performance and the writing of contractor performance assessment reports (CPARs).  The engineer will manage these efforts within the existing multi-disciplinary TWS IPT infrastructure with special emphasis on system requirements, internal and external system interfaces, concept of operations/employment, operational and non-operational environments, design for logistics, system certifications, system safety, operational maintenance and support, configuration management, and risk management.  Other system engineering functions to be performed include coordination with Prime Contractor and major subcontractors, design reviews, analysis, assessments, design review prep, model-based systems engineering, environmental testing, modeling & simulation, frequency management, software design and integration, production/manufacturing planning, and test planning and execution.  This engineer will work with the TTWCS and TMPC IPTs and associated engineering disciplines to integrate the MST capability.
