Mechanical Engineer

Lexington Park, Maryland

Education:  Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.

Experience:  At least 20 years of experience in testing missiles in the Functional Ground Test environment. Specific knowledge of the Tomahawk cruise missile is preferred 

Engineering knowledge and experience in mechanical system design and development including generation of mechanical drawings for fabrication and maintenance of mechanical drawings. Familiarity with mechanical system fabrication. Ability to interpret mechanical specifications and drawings to support performance evaluation. Ability to review test data in support of mechanical system performance evaluation.

Engineering knowledge and technical writing skills to support writing and reviewing test plans, test procedures, and test reports. Experience with planning, preparing for and conducting test readiness reviews.

Engineering knowledge in how to conduct testing in accordance with approved standard operating procedures (SOPs) including installation and setup of mechanical fixtures.

Engineering knowledge in how to maintain and support the test platform used for ground test firing Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Position/Program Description: Provide part-time mechanical engineering support and services to support Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division’s Tomahawk Missile Functional Ground Test (FGT) capability. Work is located at Naval Surface Warfare Center – Indian Head, MD. Situational telework may be authorized. Most of the job will require on-site presence at NSWC-IHD.

Specific duties include: Providing mechanical engineering expertise for maintaining the FGT platform; and providing engineering support in preparing test plans, presenting test readiness reviews, writing test reports, and conducting testing in accordance with approved SOPs and procedures.
