Engineering Technician (Journey Level) Part Time

  1. Description:  The technician analyzes proposed manufacturing and quality documentation prepared by contractors requesting approval to produce naval aviation critical safety items.  The technician must be able to read and understand detailed engineering drawings, specifications, standards and related technical data on aviation hardware components and assemblies. The technician must be able to evaluate production equipment, machining operations, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance practices to determine if a prospective supplier can consistently produce critical parts that conform to engineering requirements.
 
  1. The technician will compare suppliers’ detailed manufacturing processes and operations to confirm they adequately address all technical requirements of drawing packages. The technician will evaluate quality inspection and test results and deficiency reports on previously manufactured critical items. The technician will evaluate suppliers’ experience in manufacturing similar critical items to assess whether that experience is a good indicator the company can produce different critical items.
 
  1. The technician will provide recommendations with detailed analysis to NAVAIR engineering technical authorities on whether a supplier should be approved to manufacture specific critical safety items.  The technician may need to consult with company or government engineers on areas of significant complexity  prior to submitting the recommendation.   
   
  1. Education:  Position requires an AS or AA degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering/scientific/technical field.  ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTION:  A High School diploma or GED credential and two (2) years of recent and relevant technical experience related to the labor category “Description” may be substituted for an AS or AA degree.  These two (2) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of six (6) years to meet the “Experience” requirements below, therefore, requiring a total of eight (8) years of experience.
 
(c)     Experience:  At least six (6) years of recent and relevant experience in a position related to the labor category “Description”.  Four (4) years of experience, to include manufacturing critical parts.  One (1) year of experience, to include manufacturing or quality assurance of critical aerospace parts is required.  Experience may be concurrent.
