Autonomy Team Test & Evaluation Engineering Scientist Journey Engineer

Travel Required?  Yes. Domestically two to three times a year.

Education:  Position requires a BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline.

Experience:  At least At least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience in a position related to the labor category “Description” is required. Demonstrated knowledge in area of engineering expertise is required.
Position Description: 
NTWL conducts research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) and experimentation of Naval air-platforms and air-platform systems; supports RDT&E of aviation training systems, aviation support equipment, aircraft launch and recovery equipment, and air traffic control systems; and trains test pilots, test naval flight officers, and flight test engineers in order to support naval operating forces.
Desired experience:
  • Knowledge and experience with platform level performance of embedded/integrated avionics systems and sub-systems, platform and system of system level tactical and control software, interfaces and interoperability of these integrated mission and avionics with affiliated ships, aircraft, mission support devices, and other weapon and combat systems.
  • Knowledge and experience leading and managing T&E efforts to include identification of critical program test elements; translating engineering test requirements into test plans; conduct of tests; engineering analysis of test data; and reporting of test results in the area of integrated mission and avionics.
  • Knowledge and experience testing UAS Mission Systems to include autopilots, mission computers, data links, control stations, payload systems, route planning and autonomous behaviors.
  • Knowledge and experience with communication systems and networks to include systems such as, HF, UHF, VHF, Satellite, Communication Relay systems, and Network Centric Warfare data-link communications systems like the Joint Tactical Information and Display System (JTIDS), Multifunction Information Display System (MIDS), Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC), and Joint Tactical Airborne Radio System (JTARS).
  • Knowledge and experience with navigation systems to include systems such as, radio navigation aids, inertial navigation systems, Global Positioning System receivers, attitude/heading references, and radar altimeters.
  • Knowledge of UAS operating procedures, local Air Operations procedures, airfield operating procedures, and test range operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of UAS data links and control procedures, frequency management considerations, and knowledge of specific procedures required for a lost link condition.
  • Knowledge of the UAS unique Test Hazard Analysis (THA) factors and Go/No-Go conditions in the flight test plan, and skill in applying them during test scenarios.
Skills Required:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Test and Evaluation experience to include Test reporting experience.
  • Independently motivated and able to produce products and react quickly to a rapidly changing, continuously evolving environment. 
  • Independent critical thinking is a must.
